Several months ago, as I was getting ready to attend a meeting in New York, I began to experience difficulty with my teeth and gums. One side of the cheek was swollen, and it was impossible for me to eat. Science and Health tells us, "Inflammation is fear, an excited state of mortals which is not normal" (pp. 414-415). I started declaring that I am not afraid, for matter cannot be inflamed and act on its own, since there is no mind in matter and no matter in God, the divine Mind. All that is real is spiritual, harmless, and good.
In addition, the weather forecast for the day of my departure from Connecticut predicted severe rain. I asked for treatment from a friend who is a Christian Science practitioner.
I then decided to see a dentist, who took an X-ray. He stated that the situation was serious and recommended antibiotic treatment. I told him that I had never taken any medicines, but to allay his concerns I agreed to make an appointment to see him when I returned to Connecticut.
