Prayer and fasting prepare us for healing

From the April 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every so often, when a friend or an acquaintance finds out that I rely completely on God and inspired prayer for healing, he or she makes a comment like, "It must take a great deal of faith to be able to do that." Yet those who have experienced healings through relying solely on God find it the most natural thing to do, and they become accustomed to expecting good results from prayer. Even young children and newcomers to Christian Science often demonstrate God's power to heal quite readily and find that a little spiritual understanding of God and faith in His power can go a long way. They soon realize that looking to God as one's sole physician is actually relying on the most effective and dependable source for complete healing, and there are no detrimental side effects.

Throughout the Bible there are accounts of how individuals were empowered by God to overcome a wide variety of problems. And healing through divine power is just as available to each and every one today as it was then. Each of us has the inherent right and ability to turn to the supreme power of God in overcoming all obstacles to healing. Christ Jesus expected his followers to trust God completely for healing and for the fulfilling of every need.

How do we go about demonstrating the power of God to heal? The Master said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31,32.
