Letters & Conversations

LETTERS

From the December 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What a delight to read regular reports in the Journal from listeners around the world who are finding inspiration in the radio programs produced by The Mother Church. In Cape Town, I am grateful to say, we enjoy perfect reception.

Earlier this year, a man who said he was from Ivory Coast visited our Reading Room. He was trying to sell things. Looking around, he suddenly said, "Aha, Mary Baker Eddy. I know her from my radio back home. Very good!" With that, he put down his bag of trinkets and looked at the Christian Science books and magazines on display. It was wonderful to see his appreciation when he recognized a French translation of Science and Health and of The Herald of Christian Science. He explained that the radio programs had been his introduction to Christian Science, and now, way down south at the tip of the continent, he had found himself in the Reading Room, and felt so much at home. At my invitation, he attended one of our church services.

Clearly, there is no knowing where the shortwave message may reach the receptive heart to comfort, bless, and heal.
