ANSWERED PRAYER

Getting what we need

If we're praying about financial challenges, we can trust the law of God

From the December 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN THE BOOK of Matthew in the Bible, we are told, "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him."
Matt. 6:8. And in Science and Health Mrs. Eddy tells us, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
Science and Health, p. 494.

Recently I had been praying about some financial situations. A few days later I received one of those sweepstakes letters assuring me that I had won and that all I had to do was send back the verification. Normally I would have just torn up the letter and not thought anything about it. But since I had been praying about this, and the letter had immediately come, I wondered if this was an answer to my prayer. Yet, aside from the fact that I knew that these letters were written to a very large number of people who were also told that they would be instant winners, I knew in my heart that God did not operate through games of chance to provide for me. I tore up the letter and threw it away.

I was using my talents, not getting something for nothing.
