On a cross-country harrier race of two laps, we had to cross a barbed wire fence over which a sack had been placed. On the first lap I cleared the fence, but the second time my leg lightly scraped a barb on the top wire. By the next day my leg was red and swollen. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me, and two days later I was leading my harrier team on a training run. I was doubly grateful for this quick and complete healing through prayer, as it was witnessed by my team-mates and other students who were aware of the seriousness of this kind of wound.
The only creation is
God's, and all is
spiritual, not made
of matter.
On another occasion I was trimming a long length of hedge that had grown too high. I was reaching across the top while standing on a ladder, and though I had stopped the electric hedge cutter, I accidentally triggered it off momentarily, cutting a finger that got caught in the blades. I climbed down and sat on a doorstep in a cool place. I began to pray by knowing that man is really the spiritual idea of God, living harmoniously in His realm, and that nothing could harm His ideas. The finger was hurting, but my certainty that God is a loving, caring Father-Mother, who would not permit pain, quickly freed me from this. I wrapped a cloth around the finger and continued to pray. In a matter of minutes the bleeding stopped. The cut began to close. Fifteen minutes later I was back trimming the hedge and finished the job. The cuts quickly healed, leaving only faint lines after a couple of days, and even these subsequently disappeared.
