A DIVINE CALLING

From the February 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am a new student of Christian Science. I attended a lecture in my town ..., began reading Science and Health, and experienced a healing from reading the book. I made an appointment ... for treatment from a Christian Science practitioner for some other needs. As a result of this appointment I studied the [concept] of "light," which brought me to Job 22:21-30. This passage spoke to me so much of the calling of a Christian Science practitioner that I sat down and wrote this poem.

Acquainting yourself with God–
     your call,
          your work,
               your life.

You breathe in peace
and exhale the calm of God's presence.
God's truth is in your thought
and out of the abundance of your heart
your mouth speaks.

The supply of Spirit is your treasure
and out of it
you give to your sisters and brothers.

As you delight in
and look to God
your illumination lights the way
for others.

Your prayers are heard;
God's decree is established.

You look beyond their depression
and see them lifted up.

You look beyond their guilt
and see them delivered by pure Love.

You have known and made known God.
