Many years ago, whilst undertaking studies at university, I appeared to suffer a mental breakdown. I was introduced to a Christian Science practitioner and, through her prayer, experienced a spontaneous healing. I was in such awe and respect for her because of this healing that I immediately began to study the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. Not long afterwards, I began to attend the Sunday and Wednesday church services at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. These services remain a spiritual animus in my daily experience. The continuing study of Christian Science reveals so much about God's unconditional love that I find an increasing understanding of grace and love shining in my life.
I was healed of an illness that held me under the thrall of medical beliefs for many years. This life-threatening condition had continued from my early childhood until well into my twenties, and I had undergone several operations. I have been free of it now for many years.
Several years have passed since I relinquished the social habit of drinking wine with my meals, along with smoking the occasional cigarette. Abandoning these habits was not done through human will on my part. The desire for these material pleasures, which truly were never a blessing, simply stopped as a natural outcome of Primary class instruction with a Christian Science teacher.
