Testimonies of Healing

Seasickness permanently overcome

From the February 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This Testimony is long overdue. There is much that I have to thank and glorify God for, not least for being led into Christian Science many years ago after much searching for the sunlight of Truth. Since then I have experienced many blessings and healings. I would like to tell of one healing that over the years has meant a great deal to me—the healing of seasickness.

I have always loved the sea. But before knowing of Christian Science, I seemed to fare better in it than on it! In fact, when going by boat anywhere, I was often quite ill. Shortly after taking Primary class instruction in Christian Science, I spent a holiday in Scotland, and whilst there, I went for a visit by steamer to the Western Isles.

The wind was boisterous and the sea choppy, with a heavy swell. I felt thoroughly miserable. At our first port of call, the plan was that, after touring the island, we were to eat our packed lunches and be ready to sail again in the early afternoon. I sat down and looked at the lunch on my lap and wondered if I should eat it. Then I thought, "But I'm all right now, and the next moment it will still be now, and so on." I reminded myself that God always governs the eternal "now." I also thought of Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health" 'Now,' cried the apostle, 'is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,'—meaning, not that now men must prepare for a future-world salvation, or safety, but that now is the time in which to experience that salvation in spirit and in life" (p. 39).
