INTERVIEW

Christ is the light of Christmas

From the December 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Deborah, in your work as a Christian Science healer, do you feel Christmas in particular is a time for healing?

I see Christmas as the coming of the light to the world. I just am so taken with the idea of light as it is presented in the Gospel of John, where it says: "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world." John 1:6–9.

To me, that is the essence of Christmas—Jesus bringing the Light, which lights all, and shedding light on the whole universe. That is why Christmas is such a momentous occasion—because it celebrates the Light.
