'Dysfunction Junction'

Every time family members got together, things fell apart.

From the December 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Do you realize that we got through both Thanksgiving and Christimas without a family fight?" my sister asked me one day. She was right. Not too bad for a family that used to jokingly call our home Dysfunction Junction.

Our family is a loud bunch. We do everything over the top. We laugh, love—and fight—in a big way. It's kind of the norm for us. But it also can be hurtful sometimes. Over the years it began to take its toll on all of us. Bitter feelings existed and walls went up. Things weren't good, and we all wondered how we would ever find peace. One time when we were all together over the holidays, we talked about how bad things had become, and we all agreed to try to get along better. At about the same time, my sister and I both started seeking a more spiritual path in our lives. We were fed up with how we were living and relating as a family. We both wanted to live more Christlike lives.
