Association day and Pentecostal power

From the February 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The picture on the book jacket was vivid—arms upstretched to their fullest, hands open to receive the Holy Ghost. This Pentecostal scene may well describe the mental posture of people at their annual Christian Science Students Association meetings. Once a year, the pupils of a Christian Science teacher gather for a day of fresh inspiration, and to be reminded of what they've learned about God's law and its application. They are reaching out for, and receiving, a better, a more healing, understanding of God. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, next to the marginal title "Pentecost repeated," Mary Baker Eddy notes that the disciples understood Jesus' teachings better after his ascension. She writes: "Heretofore they had only believed; now they understood. The advent of this understanding is what is meant by the descent of the Holy Ghost,—that influx of divine Science which so illuminated the Pentecostal Day and is now repeating its ancient history."Science and Health, p. 43.

The descent of the Holy Ghost can take place in some degree for each one attending an association meeting. The truths of divine Science are illuminating. This spiritual light exposes and destroys latent fears and materialistic thoughts that hide God's allness and goodness. There are often healings and profound changes in the lives of people present at these important meetings.

The descent of the Holy Ghost can take place to some degree for all attending.
