The love of Jesus

Jesus showed us that God's love never changes, but it does change us.

From the February 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A number of years ago, while I was sitting on the beach, a young man came and kneeled in front of me. I noticed a big, beautiful cross hanging on a chain around his neck. He asked if I had been saved. I thought about it for just a moment to be sure that I understood his question. He was asking if I had accepted Christ Jesus as Saviour and Lord. I answered with an enthusiastic "Yes!"

The young man then began telling me about how he had been saved. He had been very deep into drugs and was even mixing them dangerously. He was so miserable that he cared about nothing. One night, after an overdose, he was rushed to a big hospital. He was laid on a stretcher in the hall. He said he felt he had been left out there to die—there was nothing that anyone could do for him. He was not even checked in by anyone. Then someone passed by his stretcher and whispered in his ear, "Jesus loves you."

Instantly he was filled with love. He jumped off of that stretcher and walked out completely healed. All desire for dope was gone in that instant. He felt the love of Jesus. Jesus, he said, had healed him. For the past couple of years, this man had been telling everyone he met about Jesus. Oh, how he loved Jesus!
