Many years ago, I was healed of an illness through prayer while visiting a city far from my home. The next day, as I walked through a crowd to get to a meeting, I saw people differently. I saw what the eyes see, of course—material human beings. But I also saw beyond that. I caught a glimpse of each person's true, spiritual individuality. Words can't do justice to my experience that morning, but it left an indelible imprint on me.
We've got more going for us than personality.
Having been reared in Christian Science, I had learned that God made us in His image—pure, perfect, immortal—and that the material body and personality aren't who we really are. But I'd thought of spiritual identity as existing someplace far away. The lesson I learned that morning was that everyone's real identity is right here, now—it's the truth about each of us all the time.
