Christ Jesus prayed in the Lord's Prayer, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." Matt. 6:10. Before his crucifixion, he prayed three times that his Father's will, not his own, be done. See Matt. 26:39-44 .
Our own surrender to God's will becomes something other than a difficult suppression of what we think are our best interests, when we trust that almighty God is omnipotent, supreme, and entirely good. It becomes a relinquishing, at least to some degree, of the mistaken impression that we are finite beings separate from God, and a bowing to His infinite wisdom. Conforming to the Divine opens us to experience more of our true, spiritual nature, made in His image as the Bible says, and including all good.
What if something we've cherished appears to be over?
