Each year, The Christian Science Monitor, in cooperation with the National Foundation for Women Legislators, presents an award for academic excellence to a young woman. Last November, John Selover, Manager of The Christian Science Publishing Society, presented Amber Wallin with the award at the NFWL conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. The following are Mr. Selover's remarks, which have been slightly edited for print.
I'm So Very Pleased to present this award this morning. Most of that pleasure—and even a little pride—comes in response to the outstanding qualifications of the young woman who is receiving this year's scholastic award from the National Foundation for Women Legislators and from The Christian Science Monitor.
While the sponsorship of this gift comes from the Monitor, in a larger sense it is from one woman to another woman—from the founder of the Monitor, Mary Baker Eddy, to Amber Wallin of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
