What tells you when healing has taken place?

It doesn't help to keep checking to see if it has.

From the January 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Sometimes when one is turning to God in prayer for healing, it can be tempting to check the problem one is praying about to see if there's any improvement. In the past, I've even slipped into a pray-and-check, check-and-pray routine, which doesn't help one bit. Constantly checking for some sign of physical progress places a great deal of faith in matter.

I would pray about my situation—and then watch the mail.

Christian healing, on the other hand, grows out of faith in Spirit. Jesus taught, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." John 6:63 The Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, also emphasizes the importance of turning away from matter. It says, "Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered." Science and Health, p. 425.
