HEALING IS THE COMMON LINK that has brought Christian Science into many families and even into countries. This was true for Cuba, also (see experience on the next page).
In this case, Alfred Blundell, an Englishman, was the first harbinger of healing. He had been healed through Christian Science treatment while he was living in New York early in the 20th century, and this set him on fire to spread Christian Science. From 1903-1906, while he was living in Cuba, he held informal church services. At that time, most of the attendants and participants were Americans. Ada North Martin Hotchkiss, a Christian Science practitioner who came to Havana with her husband in 1903, helped him in many ways.
When Blundell left Havana in 1906, the Hotchkisses continued the work, and by March of that year they were holding services at their home. The attendance ran from 25 to 80, and included many tourists.
