From the February 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Shortly after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D. C., we began to hear from people who asked if these events could be the prelude to Armageddon—the final battle between good and evil. Since then, a number of ministers and commentators have been raising the same question.

We began to explore the topic on a number of different levels—theological, historical, and even personal—in an effort to understand what would happen if Armageddon really were around the corner and how to respond spiritually to the challenge. "The final conflict" (p. 7) provides illumination on these points.

In some ways, Armageddon may be more of a continuum than a one-time event. Each time you and I and everyone willingly stand for good in the face of evil, we are taking part in the movement toward good's ultimate victory, as "Prophecy and Armageddon" (p. 8) brings out.
