Manhattan's Upper East Side teems with bustling neighborhoods. Tidy residential buildings line the streets, interspersed with restaurants, convenience stores, dry cleaners, beauty salons. Delivery trucks and taxis mingle with private cars, and the sidewalks are alive with pedestrians.
For the past 20 years, Geoffrey Barratt has lived with his wife in this area of Manhattan, accepting requests for help through prayer. Light streams into his large, comfortably furnished sixth-floor office near Madison Avenue, just a few blocks east of Central Park. The sounds of the bustling neighborhood drift in from below.
Last fall, Barratt spent a couple of hours talking with the Journal about a variety of topics, and sharing freely from his experiences as a spiritual healer and teacher of Christian Science.
