When I was growing up, I came down with tonsillitis about every other year. The family doctor would prescribe an antibiotic for me, and the tonsillitis would go away. But it kept recurring.
I learned about Christian Science when I was in the Army. About a year after I got out, I was going to college, and I found a part time job, stocking groceries. After my first day of work, I knew I strongly disagreed with how the store manager treated his employees. I continued to work there, but as the days went on, I felt resentful both while I was at work and when I came home from work and talked about what had happened that day. Then, after two weeks of this, I got all the symptoms of tonsillitis again.
Because I'd been studying the Bible and Science and Health, I'd been learning about how Jesus healed both sin and disease. I was praying for myself, but after the third day of being sick, I called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful help. During the call I told her about the problems at my job, certain that my viewpoint and resentment were justified. I fully expected the practitioner to agree with me. Instead, I was surprised when she said, "That manager is doing nothing wrong, and you are not seeing this correctly." She agreed to pray for me.
