When my daughter Christine was 15, she went out with her friends one Friday night. I'd planned to watch a movie, but then felt like I needed some quiet time with God instead. So I went upstairs to my desk and read that week's Bible Lesson (from the Christian Science Quarterly), which helps me learn about and stay close to God. I think I was being prepared for the challenge that lay ahead of me. As soon as I finished reading, the phone rang. It was a friend calling to tell us that Christine and her friends had been in a car accident.
When we arrived at the accident scene, we were told that everyone had been taken to the hospital. As we drove to the hospital, I was praying, becoming more and more confident that wherever my daughter was, she was with God.
At the hospital, I went through the main lobby and down a hall, and then walked through all the emergency room personnel, police, and medical staff, and around a comer to my daughter's bedside. I wouldn't have recognized her, but I recognized a piece of her clothing.
