Over the years, I've become convinced that Christian Science is based on the laws of God, which exist for anyone to understand and prove. Their credibility and reliability have been proved to me through a lifetime of healing experiences. The Science of Christ has given me not only plausible answers to my many questions, but the most spiritually satisfying, logical, and intelligent answers.
The first time I was healed solely through my own prayer was the summer before I entered high school. I was volunteering as a lifeguard at a local day-camp, and while running across the beach one day, I cut one of my toes quite severely on a large piece of broken glass. I hopped to the infirmary to have it cleaned and bandaged. Right away I prayed with ideas I'd been taught in Christian Science Sunday School. I thought about my being a child of God, made by God—spiritually perfect—and maintained that way, too.
Hours later, I was scheduled to go with a group of campers on a hike into town. The idea of hiking five miles on this foot was daunting. But I remembered something from Science and Health, called "the scientific statement of being." It told me that I was a spiritual being, not dependent upon a material body (see p. 468).
