Testimonies of Healing

Love heals irritation and painful thumbs

From the September 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Early last summer I began having trouble with my thumbs, and they gradually got worse. For a period of about four months, they would frequently pop out of joint, and my hands began to be stiff and painful as well. My husband and I had been out sailing quite a bit—he's a real sailing buff—and it became harder for me to help him with things like steering, taking the sails down, and docking the boat.

I prayed every day to solve this problem. I'd had many quick healings in Christian Science—of colds, sunburn, motion sickness when sailing and flying—so I was a little disappointed in the slowness of this one.

At the end of the summer, I returned to my teaching position. I teach seventh graders at a middle school, and I enjoy the kids. I like being with them and watching their growth. Even though I've taught for 30 years, it can still be challenging, however. And with the problem with my thumbs, I was finding it hard to get the materials ready for class, to write up lesson plans, grade papers—even to use a piece of chalk or the computer.
