DISCOVERING SCIENCE AND HEALTH AND ITS AUTHOR

Spirituality and healing in the bookstore

From the February 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Spirituality and Healing" is a topic about which many people are thinking. The Journal is pleased to offer this report on how people around the United States and Canada are exploring a major work on spiritual healing, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, in interactive workshop discussions. The Journal spoke with two speakers from The Christian Science Board of Lectureship,

Cindy, you often speak in African American bookstores. Is there anything unique to your approach in these venues?

When I Speak in African American bookstores, I'll talk about Sojourner Truth and her journey for freedom. Her desire to be set free paralleled Mary Baker Eddy's desire that all mankind be set free from any limitations. Mrs. Eddy didn't support slavery of any type—physical, mental, or spiritual. She felt that we can be set free when we understand our relationship to God. Sojourner Truth's experience helps to make Mrs. Eddy's journey relevant to people's lives.
