Around June 2002, a little growth appeared on the outside of my nose, but I didn't think too much about it until it started to get larger. I prayed about it and also asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me pray. I thought of an idea from Science and Health that I knew by heart: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463).
During a checkup, my dentist noticed the unsightly growth on my nose. She said, "Oh, that must be removed." Her assistant agreed. The dentist asked me if I had a family doctor. When I said no, she and her assistant each gave me a telephone number of skin specialists they knew.
On the way home it seemed tempting just to pick up the telephone, make an appointment with one of the skin specialists, and have the growth removed. However, thinking back to that line from Science and Health, I thought to myself, "Would it be removed properly?"
