I am confused by the relationship of Jesus to God, considering references to him like, "the Word was made flesh" (John 1:14), "the Word was God" (John 1:1), and "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30). Please could you clarify this for me?
As a Christian, nothing has been more important to me than the life and example of Jesus. His healing works, his compassionate care for those struggling with sin, his profound teachings on the power of love, are not only beautiful to contemplate but perfectly practical.
I've always felt that it wouldn't be possible even to hope to emulate Jesus' example if he were God. Yet because he is the Son of God, as the Bible says (see Matt. 3:17, for example), then we can strive to do what he expected.
