It had been raining all day. We were watching the creeks rise higher and higher. When I saw the water beginning to come toward my house, I got scared. I was afraid our whole neighborhood would flood.
I thought: There's something I can do. I can pray. So I called my aunt to help me. We've prayed together before. I remember her telling me that God was in control, so the water couldn't just do its own thing. God is the only power there is. After I talked with my aunt, I didn't feel so afraid anymore. But we kept praying, anyway.
Then I heard on the news that evening that the floods had gone down. I thanked God that everyone was protected. This experience made me feel closed to God.
