JUST SAY NO

From the October 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I THOUGHT SHE might talk to me about God's unconditional love. Maybe remind me that I was God's cherished and cared-for child. Instead, I found myself in a conversation about a term that was completely foreign to me: animal magnetism.

This wasn't my first experience talking with a Christian Science practitioner. During my childhood, I'd had a couple of occasions to talk to practitioners—and had had wonderful healings as the result of Christian Science treatment. But this concept, and even the physical condition I was dealing with, was unlike anything I'd confronted before. As it turned out, though, this was exactly the concept I needed to understand in order to move forward.

It was a time of substantial change in my life—some relationships ending, antagonism in others. I was also just back from a year of traveling and soon to start college. At best, my life was in flux. At worst, it seemed almost tumultuous.
