SEVEN WAYS TO SAY GOD

From the October 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

LAST SUMMER, my mom and I decided to study the seven synonyms, or names, for God that Mary Baker Eddy gave in Science and Health. They are: Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love.

I thought about how learning more about each of these names for God is like adding a tool to my toolbox. We each have a spiritual toolbox. It's everything we know about God. So when you learn more, you have more tools to use. And then if you ever have a problem, you can always go back to what you learned and find an answer, because whatever you know about God is enough to heal you and help you.

On the day my mom and I studied Principle, we went with my best friend to the beach. When we were going onto the sand, my friend almost stepped on glass, and it made me remember that because God is Principle, that means He's governing every part of our day. Principle is steady, and it's a law that keeps us safe. I was glad my friend was OK. And guess what? Just as I was remembering Principle, I had the thought to look down, and I was just about to step on glass! I knew it was because I was thinking about Principle governing everything that I was taken care of.
