OUT FROM THE STARS

From the April 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Standing flat-footed on earth's floor,
listening to news of recent disaster,
fearing chaos will wash over us,
we search the skies.
Stars steadfast in their constellations.

Astronauts, resting
among Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades,
watch planets orbit according to law.
These pioneers of science
encounter its inadequacies
acknowledge Higher Intelligence—
Principle in operation—
despite mindless efforts to dismantle
long-established order.

They know not heaven's ordinances,
set not earth's dominion,
but observe that, in the universe,
order springs from law
not from chaos
as some scientists suggest.

Inspired by Science and Health, p. 125, and Job 38:31–33.
