Time Space Matter

CONVERSATION III

From the July 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

April 14, 2005: During a photo shoot for our sister magazine the Christian Science Sentinel, I asked , a Christian Science teacher and practitioner in Boston, if I could get her perspective on the time-space-matter question. "We are not at the mercy of the nebulous thing called time, and we're not victims of the limitations of space or the illusion that matter is real," Ms. Jenks responded as quick as lightning, and we agreed to talk more on the subject the following week. Jenks is a former President of the Christian Science Board of Education, and is the author of numerous articles about Christian Science. She has lectured widely about the practical power of prayer to Spirit, God, who transforms, safeguards, adjusts, and heals.

Betty, let's talk about time—what it is, what it isn't.

Time, as we think of it in human life, is based on illusion. Yet no one would deny that this somewhat nebulous concept is very concrete in our day-to-day existence. We can't ignore time, because if we do, we are in trouble. If you're supposed to pay your taxes by April 15, you need to be sure you're on time or make valid excuses!
