AT FIRST I wasn't too keen to help. But my husband needed me to hold the ladder as he fixed an electricity pole at the front of our property. Because the lines had begun to detach from the pole, he had to chip away the old wood and attach brackets to the underlying, stronger wood. As he chipped, little pieces of wood began to fly around. I did my best to hide my face, but one thick piece, about a foot and a half in length, came tumbling down, hitting me on the head.
When my husband saw what had happened, he hurried down to see if I was OK. I began to cry from the shock, and when I felt my head, I realised that when the wood made contact, it had actually pierced my scalp, leaving a sizeable chunk stuck in my head. Immediately I prayed—it was the first thing I could think to do. I just thought about how God was caring for me. And the result was instant and tangible: I felt God's love surrounding me, and I wasn't afraid anymore.
I asked my husband if he could remove the piece of wood. He did, and I went inside to call a Christian Science practitioner to help me pray. More than anything I just wanted to continue feeling the omnipresence of God's love.
