A LOVE STORY... IN THREE ACTS

From the February 2006 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This is not a story of love at first sight (although it should have been). But it is a true Love story—one in which God's unconditional love takes center stage. Scene one opens in an acting class in college.

Chet: The class had about 20 students in it. It wasn't hard to spot Anne in the crowd—not just because she was six feet tall and beautiful, but because she was a real actress. I was just an artist taking the course for fun. When our instructor assigned us a major scene to perform together, Anne and I suddenly got to know each other much better. I would always come to our rehearsals armed with pages of character notes. Anne just came with her open heart and her uncanny ability to translate words into emotion that was real and palpable. But, though we had lots in common—especially our love for the arts and for Christian Science—I was distracted by another relationship and completely missed the opportunity to pursue a deeper friendship with Anne that was right in front of me.

Anne: OK, I must say I really liked Chet. As a matter of fact, I had never met anyone quite like him. His crazy curly hair. Carrying his books in a worn, leather mail pouch rather than a conventional backpack. A true artist, visionary, and poet—imaginative and soulful. And, for just a "college guy," he expressed real maturity, spiritual substance, and self-possession. But, even though I thought he was very special, I had already gotten involved with someone else. So Chet and I finished our scene, our class, and eventually lost contact.
