CHURCH ALIVE

Fellowship at church

From the January 2007 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What a gift to share the efficacy of healing prayer — a fellowship that makes your heart burn within you with joy and inspiration.

MENTION CHURCH FELLOWSHIP and people often think of picnics, potluck dinners, special get-togethers. Many churches even have fellowship halls, complete with full-service kitchens where people can meet and share with others.

I started thinking about fellowship in my own church one day last spring, after enjoying a prayer service and luncheon sponsored by an interdenominational group. Our church doesn't have a kitchen. We don't sponsor church suppers or coffee hours. Is my church lacking in fellowship? I asked myself. Does the Manual of The Mother Church provide in any way for fellowship in Christian Science churches?
