LAST YEAR I STRUGGLED from time to time with negative effects attributed to menopause. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help on occasion but mostly relied on my own prayers to get through the discomfort. In November I began to hemorrhage with what I thought was part of the normal cycle, but the bleeding didn't subside in the usual amount of time. Then other symptoms became evident, and I needed to call on the practitioner more frequently.
This situation came to a crisis at the end of January 2008 when, on a Sunday evening, I felt overcome with nausea and the sensation that my heart was not functioning correctly. I was able to get to a phone and contacted the same practitioner. Her comforting response and specific prayer for me, a Christian Science treatment, were immediate. After a short conversation, we hung up. Even though I still felt quite weak, I was able to join my husband who was watching television. He was aware that I was not well. I told him I had spoken to a practitioner, and he was satisfied that I had taken that step toward healing. I slept comfortably that night, and woke the next morning feeling refreshed and able to go to work.
Before leaving the house, I took time to read that week's Christian Science Bible Lesson, and I found this passage from Psalms: "He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy" (18:16, 17). I felt that I truly had been delivered through God's love from this recent difficulty.
