LETTERS

From the February 2008 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Recently, I fell behind in my studies. I was under a lot of stress and frightened myself one morning waking up gasping for breath. Later that day I could only walk a few steps before leaning against a wall for support. I was advised by my next door neighbor to see a cardiologist. The next morning I received the November 2007 Journal. I opened it to an interview with Walt Rodgers [p. 46] and this passage: "...despair not nor murmur, for that which seeketh to save, to heal, and to deliver, will guide thee, if thou seekest this guidance," a quotation from Mary Baker Eddy's book The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany [p.150]. Mr.Rodgers went on to say, "We have to be alert to the thought of helplessness in every aspect of our lives—and deny it."

This was a wake-up call for me and sent me straight back to my books (Science and Health and the Bible). Also in the same Journal was an inspiring editorial by Tony Lobl [p.64] in which he quotes John F. Kennedy: "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live them." I decided to do this more assiduously, especially in my study and practice of Christian Science.
