WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I were searching for an answer to a pressing financial problem, I turned wholeheartedly to God in prayer. The solution came in a way I never could have outlined: in a box of kites.
We had just begun our new business—a riding stable called "Old Oak Trails," bringing to our community a much-needed activity for children and adults. Having spent a great sum of money on the barns and property for hayrides, sleigh rides, pony rings, and other activities, we found that our operating cash flow was very tight. A month came when we had a large mortgage payment due—and no funds to pay for it.
As a student of Christian Science, I reached out to God with my whole heart, asking Him for an idea that would take care of this great need. I took all the practical steps necessary, such as asking for a short-term loan from investors, and I even tried to sell some horse equipment at an auction—but to no avail. I felt I had failed this project and the community, and along with that came a heavy sense of responsibility.
