UNITING SUNDAY SCHOOL AND THE SERVICE

From the June 2008 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Branch churches and societies all over are prayerfully considering how to support Sunday graduates as they transition to the services. Here are a few approaches. (Of course, many of these approaches can be taken even before a student graduates.)

• Celebrate a student's last day in Sunday School. One student I spoke with, attending a college far from home, said, "In the branch where I grew up, graduations were a really big, joyous celebration. Everyone got together in a park or at someone's home, and brought a dish to share. My last day in Sunday School in my college town was really hard. No one remembered that I was graduating except my mom."

• Welcome Sunday School graduates to their first service, perhaps by introducing them during the "necessary notices."
