WHEN OUR MIDDLE CHILD was born, my husband and I were told by my son's pediatrician that his urinary opening was off-center and would possibly need to be corrected with surgery. Periodically, the pediatrician would mention it (my husband takes our three children for annual physical exams), but he felt that since my son was not in any discomfort or pain, the operation was not absolutely necessary.
With this in mind, my husband and I agreed that we would rather not put our young son through an operation that would be uncomfortable and in such a sensitive area. Our family has had many healings over the years through prayer, and so I opted to pray daily for our son. Occasionally, I would also ask a Christian Science practitioner for specific prayer (Christian Science treatment) for our son. Although not a Christian Scientist, my husband has supported my desire to raise our children in the Christian Science Sunday School and be taught how to heal spiritually.
At one point, as our son grew older, my husband and I began to notice that our son would have to go back and forth to the bathroom more frequently than seemed usual, and it took him much longer to urinate. But he never complained of any discomfort.
