Testimonies of Healing

SEVERE BURNS FULLY HEALED

From the May 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I HAVE HAD SO MUCH help from reading the testimonies in the periodicals, that at last I submit my own testimony. Over 45 years ago, my third child, Brenda, was severely burned on the face, hands, and legs in a fire when she was four years old. I was looking out the window of our small flat onto our block of land, where we were building our new house, and saw the builders' shed on fire. When my husband approached the builders' shed, he could hear a child's voice crying for help, and as he opened the door, our daughter was standing with flames all around her. He carried our daughter out of the shed, crying to God for help and reciting the 23rd Psalm out loud. When he finished the psalm our daughter was calm and peaceful.

We rang the doctor immediately for help for our daughter as we had been relying on him for our family needs. The doctor arrived in a very short time. Instead of sending her to the hospital, he said it was better for her to stay at home. I feel that this decision was a direct outcome of my husband's prayers for our daughter.

After six weeks of heavy medication, the doctor called in a specialist who recommended her legs be fitted with weights in an effort to straighten them. At his next visit, the specialist advised us that he would need to perform a complicated operation on her legs to straighten them. Otherwise she would be a deformed cripple for the rest of her life. Considering her weakened condition, the operation was unthinkable to me. I knelt by our daughter's bed and prayed, "Father don't let her suffer any more." An audible voice said, "Try Christian Science." My husband and I had watched a couple of TV programs about Christian Science called "The Truth That Heals," and we had been impressed by the hope that Christian Scientists portrayed. I knew that my mother-in-law knew something about Christian Science, as she had recommended that we watch the programs, which we had already been doing. I asked her what I had to do to get help from Christian Science for our daughter, and she gave me the telephone number of a Christian Science practitioner. I called my husband at work and asked if he would agree for me to call the practitioner, which he did. The practitioner asked a few questions about our daughter's condition and agreed to take the case.
