Poems

Clarity

From the September 2010 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At mystery's distance the world splitting
and spinning, expanding and heating,
appeared uncharitable. We glanced away
from appearances to listen and pray.

Heart tuned, turned to a new earth
spiritually founded on God's Word,
sustained by Christ's healing grace,
unfallen in the Almighty's embrace,

where fear's blind wars are unfounded.
Though there still lay some fighting ahead,
to melt delusion's stolid mountain
and find prophecy's fresh fountain

dissolving before us the misted matter-world,
instead, glimpse Truth's perfect, patient pearl—
beyond price—Love's presence blessing
spirits poor, with the kingdom of heaven.
