For well over 20 years, while still living in my homeland of West Africa, I always had painful monthly menstrual
cycles. One day when the cramps were very bad, I called on a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me. She asked me this question: “Do you understand that God, Mind, is the only creator?” Well, I did not understand right away what she meant, but later it came to me that if God is the only creator, then it is not my responsibility to “re-create” things like pain and suffering.
This idea helped for a few years, but after I had my second child the pains started again. An appointment was scheduled for me to see a gynecologist, but I did not go. Before the appointment, I went to visit the practitioner again. She gave me passages from the Bible and Science and Health to pray with, truths I knew I could rely on. This is when I became serious about my study of Christian Science. I wanted a permanent solution—permanent healing. I wanted to get a deeper understanding of this Christ Science that I had grown up with, because I was so fearful of the pain that I had accepted as a part of me. I decided to take a two-week course in Christian Science class instruction to be able to express these spiritual ideas in my day-to-day activities, and to support others through prayer.
