A recent issue of the Christian Science Sentinel, focusing on the topic of angels, reminded me of a lovely healing of our daughter.
During Karin’s early years, she suffered from bouts of bronchitis. Both my mother and I had been diagnosed by a family physician with the same condition, so I recognized the symptoms. In fact, for years before coming into Christian Science, I’d taken strong prescription medication for the condition, which would put me out for days.
One night Karin’s condition became severe. I immediately called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful support, made our daughter comfortable on a sofa nearby, and began to pray for her. Looking for reassurance in the Bible and Science and Health, I read passages to myself from each. Two comforting thoughts emerged. The first was Mrs. Eddy’s definition of children in Science and Health, which reads, “The spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love” (p. 582).
