Quietness that heals

From the October 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This article has been translated from Spanish and is published in the October 2012 issues of The Herald of Christian Science.

God, good, is the source of courage and peace. He embraces and includes all. That boundless peace force is spiritual, and everyone can experience its healing effect. God leads us to see that creation is wholly spiritual, and inspires us to remain at peace, unperturbed by the evidence of disease. This often occurs when we pray, and the result is healing.

When we begin to understand that there is only one God, Spirit, and only one creation, made in God’s likeness, we learn to solve health problems of every kind, and that includes not being affected by the apparent size of the difficulties we face. It is possible to remain conscious of God’s love, and therefore stand still amid the storms of human life. Peacefulness, a quality of the divine nature, is inherent in God’s reflection, man. And what is natural for God is natural also for His likeness.

In the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes: “The sick are terrified by their sick beliefs, and sinners should be affrighted by their sinful beliefs; but the Christian Scientist will be calm in the presence of both sin and disease, knowing, as he does, that Life is God and God is All” (p. 366).
