The African continent, rich in spiritual resources and cultural diversity, has been a focus for The Mother Church in recent years. Currently there is Christian Science activity in 28 countries on the continent, largely in sub-Saharan Africa, resulting in many new Mother Church and branch members. So that Journal readers continue to be kept abreast of the activity in Africa, the editors hosted a thoughtful discussion with four individuals who have close ties to the field.
The discussion was moderated by Lyle Young, a member of the Christian Science Board of Directors of The Mother Church and Manager of the International Service Department. He was joined by Lari Snorek-Yates, Manager of African Projects in that department, and Ariana Herlinger, the manager in charge of in-person events for TMC Youth. Bosede Bakarey, from Ibadan, Nigeria, and Mayal Tshiabuila, from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, joined the conversation by phone. Bosede is a Christian Science teacher and lecturer. Mayal is a communications coordinator for The Mother Church and also works for the United Nations.
Lyle: Bosede, What have been the effects of colonization in Nigeria in terms of faith and worship?
