Christmas song

Christmas Song

Deep within the heart
  this song is born.

It may not first be known as words,
  but rather felt as resonance,
  response to a holy stirring.

How/why? Who/where?
tumble in the stream of thought.
What chord can touch the soul
  and make such music?

It is a tender voice
  singing us into being,
note by note, verse by verse,
singing us as we have always been,
    are now,
      and ever will be—
as the perfect song of perfect Love.

The words are Truth, the melody is Soul,
the message is forever, and for all.
It is a song to girdle the earth with joy,
to burst into sound where silence was,
     to proclaim with angels,
       “The Christ is here!”
