'I love you'

From the December 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Those three simple but powerful words can do wonders. For the fearful, insecure, unloved, and lonely, those words are deeply meaningful.

About 30 years back, I was a timid student in school with a chronic problem of stammering. I was held in low esteem as other students made fun of me even if I uttered a single word. I was good in my studies, though, and once in chemistry class I was the only one who correctly wrote the definition of catalyst. Our very strict teacher asked me to stand up and read the answer aloud to the whole class. I was so scared that I could barely speak, and she needed to ask one of my classmates sitting nearby to read from my notebook. When she was done, the teacher told the whole class to clap for me, but I was feeling so terrible that I couldn’t appreciate it.

After class she called me into the staff room. I went in there with shaking legs and parched lips. She then gracefully got up from her chair, hugged me, and said, “I love you!”
