2012 Membership Series

Membership in The Mother Church is an inspired and significant step for any student of Christian Science to take in the ongoing and ever-unfolding study and practice of Christian Science. In this series members from diverse backgrounds and experiences share what special meaning membership in The Mother Church has for them. — The Editors

Love required

From the December 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The application for membership in The Mother Church requires the applicant to be one “who loves Christian Science” (Manual of The Mother Church, p. 114).

Those who love this Science value it and are devoted to its practice. Mary Baker Eddy tells us, “The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; …” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 450). This lessening of evil is part of the love of Christian Science that all Mother Church members commit to. That love means a great deal to me because our family has experienced its healing power.

Several years ago, my husband, son, and I were invited to spend a few days with my family at a state park in southern Missouri. The trip began with nine hours of driving over two days.
