I’ve noticed a great deal of discussion recently concerning heart attacks, and a lot of description of the symptoms. I’ve seen it mentioned in newspapers and on television constantly. I have not read the newspaper articles and always changed the channel when hearing it on TV. But although I tried to ignore it, at one point I failed to “stand porter at the door of thought” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 392), and allowed too much of this talk to find lodgment in my thinking.
One afternoon, I received a call asking for prayer from a relative who was on his way to the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack. He sounded very nervous, as he described some of what he was feeling and said he was very scared since the pain, he said, had “radiated” into his arm.
He was not asking for Christian Science treatment, but just wanted me to pray with him. I immediately told him that God, divine Love, had created him and would always maintain him. I assured him that I would continue to pray.
