One of the first challenges I told a Christian Science practitioner about was my stomach problem, considering it was in the worst state it had ever been. She assured me that this condition could certainly be healed through Christian Science. She told me that I am God’s beloved son and that I am His spiritual idea—disease-less, sinless, and deathless. She gave me a new copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and suggested I read pages 390–393.
I was particularly attracted to pages 390–391, lines 32–4, where Mary Baker Eddy writes: “Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit. Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin.” I realized that the beliefs about diet that I had entertained most of my life—for instance, that eating too much protein, such as eggs and beans, would make my condition worse—were just suggestions that had no reality, because I am spiritual and not material. I didn’t have to accept those suggestions.
After a few months of reasoning this way and studying and reading Science and Health, I realized that I was fully healed. For at least a year I have been eating things such as eggs and beans without any repercussions.
